Back in August I had the pleasure of photographing the gorgeous Kao family while they were visiting Oahu. Those of you who know me know I almost NEVER shoot sunrise but for some reason I was feeling extra crazy this day and we ended up shooting sunrise. I love this location at sunset but I actually had never even seen it at sunrise so I got to think on my feet for this one. I’m usually really good at that when it comes to lighting. I knew it would be a fun challenge.

Well, we had the most glorious morning!! The sun was shining on the mountains in the most gorgeous way and this family was an absolute dream to work with. Their little girl seriously warmed my heart so much. She just made me smile so big the whole shoot. She was such a good, engaged baby and I loved watching her interact with her sweet parents.

Photographing families has quickly become one of my favorite things since moving to Hawaii and I’m actually taking on less large weddings this year so I can take on more families, couples, seniors, and elopements. I am SO excited! I never thought I’d be photographing this many families here on Oahu but in 2022 alone, my first year here on the island, I shot 22 family sessions. That’s definitely a record for me and I have a feeling 2023 will beat that dramatically.
